First and best book from the ingenius author Frank Herbert. I did through it about 4 times and I swallowed every word. It is simply best book I've evere read. Most highly recommended. Even though it is sci-fi genre, I'm sure it has something to say to readers that are not interested in such books. Story continues in 5 other parts, which are great too. Just to make sure I didn't miss any, here is summary of Dune-related books I know about in chronological order: Legends of Dune trilogy

  • Butlerian Jihad

  • Mahine Crusade

  • Battle of Corrin Prelude to Dune by Brian Herbert

  • House Atreides

  • House Harkonnen

  • House Corrino Original Dune series by Frank Herbert

  • Dune

  • Dune Messiah

  • Children of Dune

  • God Emperor of Dune

  • Heretics of Dune

  • Chapterhouse of Dune Extending parts by Brian Herbert

  • Hunters of Dune

  • Sandworms of Dune 7th part of Dune novel, written by Frank Herbert's son - Brian Herbert and co-author Kevin J. Anderson. Story continues and uncovers many plots and adventures of known figures from part 5 and 6 of original Dune series. It is said that this book and also 8th (final) part are following outline that was created by Frank Herbert. Brian did a good job in my opinion and this book is highly readable and very interesting. If you think nothing is gonna surprise you in Dune universe, you are wrong... Highly recommended book, slightly better than "prelude" series or even older Butlerian Jihad and its companions. web: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dune_universe
