Once I had a NAS called Dlink DNS-323. Awesome device, I just loved it and I would have stayed with it, if my requirements didn't change. It says on dlink's website, that you should backup your data before updating firmware and recreate your array after. Well, I didn't do it and no wonder, that after few weeks, listen what happend to me. I issued a simple command to delete one unnecessary folder on dlink. After five minutes of deleting I was curious why it is taking so much time. I switched to deleting dialog and I almost had a heart attack. Dlink was deleting all my precious folders in array. Not only those that I wanted to delete, but all of them. I hit a cancel button and checked what was missing and what a waste it was. There were many painful days after that moment. I can't blame dlink, since they have a warning about this on their web, I can only say: "Kids, not only backup your data when updating firmware, check if you need to recreate an array too!"
